If you live alone and have a feeling that someone visits your house and tries to break in when you're out try to keep cookies or candies under your doormat before you leave the house and when you come back check under the doormat,if they are crushed someone was there.
Id just have pepper spray or a weapon and if im scared id put cups that can break or make loud noises on the door handles.
Also get some big shoes that you rolled in some dirt and put them outside the door.
