Today I want to share a few tips for packing! From a lot of moves in the past handful of years, I’ve developed strategies to make packing and moving homes run smoothly. I’ve also injected minimalist principles into these strategies, such as strategies for decluttering as you pack. A lot of these principles can also be applied to pursuing minimalism more generally. Let me know if any of you have a few good moving tips!

01. Pack early. [Duh!]
02. Use categories.
03. Hire movers/helpers.
04. Unpack slowly, incorporating decluttering.
05. Mindfully position.
Move things to home your moving to… call a business like load up, get rid of things you can easily replace at new home.. keep in mind your physical limitations.. ๐โค

great video, thanks
I am moving in a few months. Selling tons, sorting out and donating, so my inventory fits in my van. It's been an interesting project.
My ultimate moving tip is to have a suitcase or a small bag ready with things you need on the first evening/ first day in your new space. For example a few pieces of clothing, your toiletries, a towel, toilet paper, your favourite stuffed animal, a book, your phone charger, or whatever you think youโll need on the first evening. I also packed my favourite piece of decor in that suitcase to give me a feeling of home faster.
I moved 5times in two years. That is stressful enough, the first Iโve I had a beautiful apartment boho style for over 15 years. When I moved to another state I sold, gave away everything but what fit in my car.
At the new location I purchased the new couch, mattresses, tv stand and bare necessities and became a minimalist. It was as though a weight had been liftedโฆ.. peace of mind. Less is definitely more
Well I need to move one last time, I have begun to pack the last 2 weeks little by little
Moving in November and Iโm starting to get ready now. Something I moved away from was heavy furniture. Since we move so often, I try and buy furniture that can be broken down easily, plus it saves space in the truck! My only heavy items are my mattress, couch, tv stand and dining table. All of my dressers can be broken down, my bed frame is super light and easy to break down, and although my dining table is heavy it can be broken down. The sooner you can lock in your date and know your floor plan the better! It makes decluttering so much easier when you know the space you are moving to. My best move is when I started decluttering and packing 4 months in advance. My last two moves were so stressful, because we had less than 3 weeks notice, soooo much stuff, and had no idea where we were moving to and I was stuck downsizing on the spot because our first property fell through. We were forced into those situations, but start early! You need way more time than you think! Also, budget cleaning time. Ovens need time for the cleaner to sit and cleaning the wire racks takes time! Lastly, take wall art off early so you can fill holes.
I usually pack 8 months ahead this time I only have about 5 weeks
Not a minimalist every 1 different
ready to be as minimal as possible, packing not fun
Life hack – want to be a good friendโฆ donโt be stingy, pack yourself hire movers to lift your items & deliver. Then youโre not taking advantage of your friends save your back & when asked in the future say nah my backs not too good I hired moversโฆ off the hook for life ๐ youโre welcome. Remember when friends ask you to help them move; they are really saying Iโm stingy and I want to use your time for free.
Honestly Iโm a somewhat of a nomad(moved abroad and move to different cities/prefectures every year) but borderline hoarder Iโm moving again in 2 weeks and this is the last time Iโm going to stress this much. Iโm getting rid of 90% of my belongings
Just mark each box with the name of the room. Simple!
Her: start packing early
Me watching this video to find out how to pack all my shit up the day before moving: ๐๏ธ๐๐๏ธ
dont you get tired of moving
i prefer to move unintentionally and see where i end up
So much talk for a minimalist way pffff
Any recommendations for bags similar to the blue one (at 1:49) to use for packing, moving and storage? Looking for something durable and waterproof ๐
Thank you so very much! Motivating and inspiring โก
Iโm moving out of state. My boyfriend already took some things and is there. We secured an apartment already & jobs. Iโm a recent empty nester and thought I had downsized until packing for this move. I want to live a minimalist lifestyle. Your video brought some light. Thank you.
We just had our car stolen right from the apartment complex, and decided to move at the end of august. Weโre going to be going from a fairly large 2 bedroom apartment to basically a studio, with some room for my workshop in a basement. I am not a minimalist, I hoard things. Iโm scared to have to buy things I just threw away because I grew up with 6 siblings and not enough money so there was a lot of resource guarding. I hoping to be able to downsize before the move wherever I can but I have so many keepsakes and treasures, expensive materials for my business and such that itโs pretty hard to find things I can actually get rid of. But I have a little under 5 WEEKS to pack everything ๐ณ
Me watching this 3 weeks before moving: *This is great, I'll plan ahead, get rid of stuff I don't need, everything will be fine!* ๐
Me the night before I have to move: *dumps stuff in to trash bags and whole drawers of stuff into a box* ๐ฐ
A month before moving, I followed PickUpLime's 30 days to minimalism and decluttered my home. It made moving so much easier.
How big of a hoarder are you…. 'it'll take weeks' wtf…. wtf. If you're packing for weeks, you're a hoarder.
I'm packing and moving. In total I've got 4 boxes (that's clothes, electronics, and bedding and my furniture.
My move is gonna take about an hour. In total.
Don't say you're you're minimalist if it takes you weeks to move. You're not.
I thought I was gonna learn something new.
Iโm moving next month and will definitely be applying thisโฆI live in a 400sq ft tiny house and will be moving to 600 but have 2 little kids and need more peace of mind and more intentionality with the stuff I have!
Moving in 3 months. Slowly decluttering now. I already reserved a moving company. I just have to pack up my things.
This is such an amazing video, I am so happy that I landed up here. Keep posting more such videos, I will come back super soon to watch more.
i only knew i was moving in the first place at the start of this month (a month before i have to be moved out). i have two ish weeks left, and sorting everything feels like i'm drowning. i've been looking at a lot of videos like this to try to get through this kind of stress block i have right now. i haven't made any progress in 24 hours, and i had planned to. i just wanna get this over with, like a school presentation.
I happen to love moving! ๐ although the last two times Iโve moved have been company moves, so I havenโt even had to pack or unpack any boxes, they did all of that for me. I love making lists of things to declutter and figuring out what stuff I can get rid of before we move and see if I can get the overall inventory down. ๐
